In the Bommelerwaard, which is enclosed by the rivers Maas and Waal, there is a mixture of dikes, floodplains, castles, manor houses and picturesque villages. People who love water sports come into their own here, for the marina and recreation area of the 'Esmeer' are within walking distance. A bike ride offers beautiful views over the water and floodplains. There are many famous castles in the area and in the extreme western tip of the Bommelerwaard lies the 'Vesting3hoek' consisting of Loevestein, Fort Vuren, Woudrichem and Gorinchem.

The settlements are connected by ferryboats for cyclists and pedestrians and this trip is an experience in itself. There are several restaurants in the immediate vicinity of Bommelstein which are very rewarding. At a distance of 1.5 km you will find one of the most beautiful restaurants in the Netherlands (most beautiful terrace award of the year 2007). This restaurant, called 'de Fuik', is a member of the famous Alliance Gastronomique and is situated in the top of the Dutch restaurants .
